W.C. Handy Music Festival Design Competition - Enter Now!
The winning design will publicize the W.C. Handy Music Festival and reflect the theme of the festival.

Key design points to consider:

Design will be used in several advertising formats
Will be used on T-shirts, posters and other festival memorabilia

Requirements for Entry
All entries must be of original creation and not previously copyrighted. Entries may not contain clip art in whole or in part of other imagery designed by others (copyright or copyright free). All entries must meet technical requirements. The previous year's winner is ineligible to enter the current year's competition. Artist's agreement must be signed and received with each original entry.

Deadline for Entires
April 8, 2005 by 5 pm CST (see 'Delivery and Pickup' details below)

Notifications of Winning Entry
Only the winner will be notified by May 9, 2005.

Procedure for Selection
Entries will be judged on merit, suitability as a visual image, originality and how well the design reflects the spirit of the festival. The final decision will be made by the Board of Directors of the Music Preservation Society, Inc.

Prize for Winning Entry
$500 (USD) will be paid to the winner on receipt of camera-ready art, due May 20, 2005.

Statement of Rights
The Music Preservation Society, Inc. Board of Directors reserves the right to photograph and/or exhibit all entries. The winning artist releases all rights to the Music Preservation Society, Inc., at which time, the winning design will become the property of the Music Preservation Society, Inc. The society reserves the right to reproduce works accepted in the competition for publicity purposes.

Specifications of Finished Art
Size
Vertical for mat 18" x 24" (maximum image area) in either a full bleed or not.

Color
Two, three or four standard spot printing (PMS) colors or digital four color process artwork. Hardcopy and disc will be submitted with entry. Colors must be 100% (no screen tints).

Design Features
The following must be included in the design:
• Festival name: W.C. Handy Music Festival
• July 24 - July 30, 2005
• Place: The Shoals
• Sponsor: The Music Preservation Society, Inc.
• Address: Florence, Alabama

Preparation of Comprehensive Entries
• The artist is to submit a matted, color comprehensive design on illustration board, 100% of size (18" x 24"). Computer generated designs should be accompanied by disc (CD)
.• Freehand comprehensive design may be submitted in the following media: Opaque water based colors, inks, or markers. PMS Color Swatches and CD may also accompany the design. Computer generated (digital art) should be submitted in hard copy on 18" x 24" format and CD.
• Each entry must have an identification label placed in the upper left corner of the back with the name, return address and phone number of the artist and signed artist agreement.
• Entry fee must accompany each entry, fee is $10 per entry.
• Non-winning entries may be returned upon request of the artist, see 'Delivery and Pickup' details below for more information.

Completion of Camera-Ready Art by Winner
The winning artist will be responsible for all technical aspects including:
Original 18" x 24" entry, CD or separation of colors (no more than four colors if free-hand design).

Hand delivered entries will be acepted April 8, 2005 between the hours of 1pm and 5 pm CST. Shipped entries must arrive by April 8, 2005. Non-winning entries may be picked up in person by appointment after September 15, 2005.

Care of Entries
Every precaution will be taken in handling entries, but the Music Preservation Society, Inc. assumes no responsibility for loss or damage.
